From a Shattered Bowl to New Beginnings:

Life Lessons

One day, I was finishing up my lunch at work. My homemade salad was delicious & I ate a small tangerine with it. I was about to dump the remnants into my trash can when the unthinkable happened.

My glass dish slipped out of my hand and crashed to the floor. I watched as my favorite bowl shattered into a thousand pieces. While my coworkers asked if I was ok.

Thankfully, I was not hurt at all. With the help of my friend, I cleaned up my mess. Then, I proceeded to go back to work.

Seeing my bowl now turned into shards had me thinking. What once was something that held nourishment for my body no longer exists. The times I enjoyed my meals in it gave me great joy.

Whether I had a tossed salad or a fruit salad, it was great. It was the perfect size to carry to my office frequently.

Face it, we all have favorite items we just love. It could be an old sweatshirt with a hole in it. A leaning table or even a broken TV that you’ll eventually fix. Since we love them, we hold them.

My salad holder was about three years old. Sure it didn’t close properly at times and I needed to replace it. But it served my purpose.

I’ve come to realize a very important thing. Holding on to old items is nostalgia. However, you have no room for the new things.

Sometimes, we have to let go of the old so we can embrace the new. I’m not saying forget about it completely. Rather keep in your memory bank. That way, you can fully adore your newly acquired treats.

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here

  1. Amen. Desiree, I appreciate your meaningful testament. As I witnessed a new day rising, dawn’s clear sky shared our Creator’s peace. What a delightful beginning to my Saturday.

  2. Thanks for sharing this. I was just telling my cousin earlier today I have so many old things I need to get rid of. I am a victim of nostalgia lol. This was an encouragement.

  3. Hi Dawn, so happy you enjoyed it. I’m still playing catch up with trying everyone’s blog. But I’m still reading even if I don’t get to post a comment right away.
