Relaxation Brings Focus: How to Find Yours
Not long ago, I found myself with two doctor’s appointments on the same day. This is not unusual, because combining two different tasks into one day is way easier for me. It saves me a lot of time by not constantly running around after a hectic workweek.
What made this day different was that there were three hours in between them. Unexpectedly, my car was being serviced, and the commute back home would have taken an hour. That did not seem appealing to me at all.
Not to mention, several things could have potentially happened upon my arrival. One, I would have pulled out my laptop and begun working on this blog. Or, my head would have hit my comfy pillow, and I’d drift off to sleep. Neither would’ve been good, because I’d get lost in time.
Going to see a movie would have been perfect. However, time was not on my side. My favorite clothing store was thirty minutes in the opposite direction. Everything seemed to be unfeasible for me to do; this young lady needed to hatch a plan.
My fingers started scrolling through my phone, trying to determine what to do. Then my stomach started to grumble. Yours truly skipped breakfast while rushing to drop off my car for servicing.
With that in mind, my next move was simple. Get something to eat. But not just any meal. Something very special.
My favorite healthy fast food was only twenty minutes away, and the train station was nearby. Its stop was right before it headed to New York City. I’m rarely in that area because of parking issues. This was perfect, not having to worry about that for a change.
Navigating the station was a bit difficult as they had renovated the area. It’s been well over a year since I’ve been there. A nice attendant graciously helped me after asking for assistance.
Filling my hungry belly was just what the doctor ordered. It gave me much clarity to plan my next move. That would be anything to fill the gap in time.
Venturing to sit near the water and enjoy the weather came next. It’s something about the water that seems to give me peace.
There were these large geese that decided they wanted to take a stroll near me. Normally, my feet would have moved quickly to walk away from them. But for some reason, the rest of my body didn’t get the memo.
They marched in front of me, oblivious to me and many others around them. It was as if they had a planned routine, and everyone followed suit. Not bothering anyone, just going about their business.
After watching my very own bird parade, it was getting closer for me to see my next doctor. Unsure of how to get there using public transportation, of course, Google assisted me.
Later that day, after two doctor visits, taking public transportation all day, this writer was exhausted. Despite my all-day adventure, the birds were on my mind.
That got me thinking about something. These birds had so many obstacles in their path as they trotted along. Yet they navigated every one of them with ease.
These winged, feathered friends mimic life as we know it. Bill, whom we’ll call him and his friends taught me a lesson. Your current situation can feel like a maze of going in circles, but you have to relax. Relaxation brings focus.
Don’t cause yourself to get a headache or anything. Just breathe and make a plan. Bill’s goal was to get all of his friends to follow him without getting hurt. He did that by following a path and dodging obstacles like other people, cars, and such, surrounding them.
Mine was juggling a clock to make everything fit in the right order. Sure, it took a bit of work to manage, but it went ok. Everything worked out smoothly.
