Be Patient, You Will Arrive Shortly

Recently, I was standing at the bus stop waiting on my bus. I just left the eye doctor where my eyes were dilated as part of my exam. The doctor wanted to get a better view of my eyes.

With that comes, extreme sensitivity to light which means I couldn’t drive myself there. Hence waiting for public transportation. Thankfully it was a cloudy day, so there was no sun to bother my eyes.

From a distance, I could see the building where I live as I was leaning on the mailbox by the bus stop sign. It’s not hard to miss as it’s the only tall building among smaller homes. However, walking the one-plus mile is not an option due to health problems.

According to the schedule, my ride was on First Street and would not arrive where I was on Forty-Fourth Street for another fifteen to twenty minutes. Meanwhile, my destination was on Fifty-Eight Street, just a short distance away. It’s so close that my mind was telling me I could walk but my body was warning me not to because I’d be in pain later.

Why rush to get home? Absolutely no reason because I couldn’t watch TV, or work on my novel or upcoming blog posts. I couldn’t even shop for my December birthday gift for myself. There was no reason for me to rush home whatsoever.

Has this ever happened to you? You’re rushing to get nowhere fast. Like the car that cuts you off on the highway, for you to meet them at the next light. Or like, the lady running to beat you to the checkout line only to find the machine is broken.

Why hurry to end up waiting anyway? In this society that we live in, it seems everything is almost microwavable. You press a button and ta-da what you wanted is ready almost instantly.

As a child, I remember watching a cartoon called The Jetsons. It was an animated futuristic kid show where the family of four lived in Orbit City in the year 2062. There were flying cars, a robot maid, and even a video telephone.

Back to the present day, we now have electric cars, robotic floor cleaners (If not for the high price tag I would have one), and video chat in the form of Zoom, FaceTime and a few others. Even in the eighties, that cartoon was far beyond its time.

Seems that everything is almost instant, and I have become the same to a certain point. I admit it, I can be impatient at times. Is this what life is, tapping a button, then your feet, and tapping the button again in hopes that it will speed up the process?

The answer is no because I soon realized that just like planting a flower seed, it too must take time to grow into a beautiful flower. The Right Now effect will only leave you with fast, not-so-great results. But the Waiting effect will be even better because it has matured.

Be patient, you will arrive shortly. James 5:7-11 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord.
