Thunderous Noises Verses a Gentle Sound

The other day I was lying in bed enjoying the nice breeze with my window open. It was dark and the night air cooled my room just right. From afar I could hear dogs barking.
A loud bark came from what sounded like a big dog. Then another woof came, but it sounded like it was a puppy. I could only imagine a larger pooch like a Pitbull growling at a little toy poodle.
Every time the heavier-voiced canine barked the squeaky-voiced doggo responded. If they were human, I would say they were having a heated discussion. The noises went back and forth for about five minutes.
Though I couldn’t see their faces, their snarling made it clear that one of them was not happy. If they were on leashes with their owners, that could be a game of tug of war, while they physically tried to attack each other.
As the sounds started to dissipate or I was falling asleep, I realized something. The dog that sounded like a Pitbull was the aggressor in the situation, while the other pup, simply defended him or herself.
After the sounds completely faded it dawned on me exactly how the incident was defused. The tiny pup got tired of everything and walked away, leaving the bigger one with no one to howl at.
Animals and people are more the same than we realize. Our nature is to protect our families and ourselves. This is the same for these animals, perhaps fighting over a bone that the smaller doggy had first but the other one stole.
This is life as we know it. Sometimes, you just have to walk away from situations where you see there is no favorable end. Sure, you might be right on every level but arguing with someone who has to be right is pointless.
Not only that but it can turn a minor disagreement into an outright major war. In instances like this, you have to agree to disagree. However, if the other party is unwilling to do so, then leave.
Removing yourself from the toxic environment does not make you a loser or a coward. What it does is show just how smart you are because then the thunderous voices have no ears to listen to.
Proverbs 15:1 – A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
