God Is Keeping You Away from the Fire
By Desiree Future
On my way from work one day, I decided to take a different route. The one I had taken the day before led me straight to road closures.
Living in a big city that is becoming even bigger, it is common for things like that to occur. But on the flip side when you’re born and raised in the city, you know the shortcuts. Or so I thought.
Turning left on a short highway I ran into traffic. It was a bit unusual but nothing to worry about. Two lights from where I would make another left, I encountered even more cars.
For some strange reason, the heavy traffic looked like New York City’s Times Square. The only thing it was missing was the yellow taxis. Getting into the right lane, I decided to go back to where I came from. As soon as I did that boom gridlock.
All vehicles in the left lane going west became barricaded in because the northbound traffic blocked the intersection. No one was going anywhere anytime soon.
Driving down numerous streets trying to get away from the congestion was hard. Almost like a human maze, if you will. Left, right, blocked road now go back. Right, left, construction, lane ending soon.
Thoughts of getting home were no longer in my mind. Only removing myself from the bottleneck. There simply had to be a way around such madness.
I took a deep breath and hit the music button to hear my gospel as I drove. With unexpected things like this as long as I had a full tank of gas, I was fine.
My commute time doubled to avoid the standstill. Later I found out that there was a truck fire on the nearby bridge. I prayed that everyone made it out fine.
Sure, I was less than pleased with the situation. No, there was nothing I could do. Yes, I tried even driving down blocks I’d never been on not knowing where they led.
Here’s what I got out of this. The traffic gridlock was just God’s way of saying “Hey, you can’t go there now.” God didn’t want me near the fire, so He stopped me. And as much as I tried to get around, He saw fit not to let me near it.
God will always protect us even if it’s from ourselves. He will not allow us to go down dark alleys or desolate streets alone. Yes, we will make mistakes but with every step we take He is guiding us.
Guiding us in the right direction in order to be the best person we can be. No life is not easy for everyone as a matter of fact its not easy at all. With every day comes a new challenge.
That challenge is to be a better you than you were the day before. The next time you’re at a complete standstill in your life and want to blow a gasket that’s not under your car’s hood, think about this. God is delaying me for a reason.
Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
