Remove the Blinders To See Clearly

About a year ago, I was gifted a beautiful shade of lipstick. The color was excellent for my skin tone. For someone who stopped wearing lip color years ago, I found myself back at it again.

So much so that I needed to keep one at home, in my purse, in my car, and even at work. So I drove to all the stores that carried that brand but no one had it in stock. After research, I later found the color was discontinued in stores.

That left me with having to either find a similar color in the stores or locate one online. At first, I found several colors that mimicked it but they weren’t quite right. Loving that shade so much I decided to go to the internet in search of my favorite lipstick.

I admit I was a little skeptical about purchasing something like this online. With all the fraudulent schemes happening you just don’t know what you’ll be getting. The last thing I wanted was to get something that caused me harm.

Yours truly looked on the brand’s website. It was their lip color so I was very sure I’d be able to buy it there. Unfortunately, they no longer carried any discontinued items. Searching for this lipstick seemed like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I was beginning to think this shade was like a unicorn. Magical – yet non-existent. A friend suggested a website to visit where she placed her makeup orders. Any help would do for me.

After tons of searching, eureka! I finally found the shade. Having spent so much time looking for it, I ordered several of the same colors. If I ran out, I would have spares to hold me over until I placed another order.

My items would arrive in fourteen business days. Sure, I wanted them sooner but I had to wait for the company to send them to me. I had an entire outfit that matched the lipstick perfectly.

It was as if I was wearing blinders because nothing else mattered but getting my item in my hand. So to say I was a little impatient was an understatement. I checked my email every day in hopes it would ship early.

Then God told me something that shook me. When we go to Him and ask for something, it may take some time for Him to answer. His answer might be a yes, no, or not right now. Whatever His decision is, it might take time to get a reply.

Now, I don’t know about you but I’m not one to rush God. That is not anymore. I’ve learned that when you try to rush God you make mistakes. You think God is not moving fast enough so you intervene.

When you do that you end up making bad choices causing problems you didn’t expect. Meanwhile, God has yet to answer you because He’s watching and deciding what’s best for you. God can see the big picture, while what we see is like wearing blinders where we only get a small glimpse.

I searched and searched for the perfect shade of lipstick and guess what? I don’t even wear it every day like I used to anymore. After my second or third repurchase, I slowed my lipstick-wearing.

It wasn’t the lipstick I needed. When I looked in the mirror without the lipstick I still looked beautiful. With the gap in my teeth and the large pores on my face, I’m still beautiful. God was telling me how beautiful I was I just had to remove my blinders.

I searched for hours looking for something I didn’t need. The delay was God telling me that. In life, we have to learn to remove the blinders from our eyes.

How do we do that, you might ask? You step away from the situation for some time. Go do something else, and then come back to it. Most importantly, you have to remember that God knows what’s best for us.

Psalms 37 – 4 (NIV) Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
