Getting over Jericho Walls

Desiree Future

One day I saw an elderly man park his new model SUV on the street. It was super early and on one of the blocks with heavy traffic and limited parking. Like me, he had gotten there early to get a spot to avoid having to walk several blocks to get to his destination.

We both sat in our cars for an hour before leaving for our separate ways. I watched him cross in front of my car with a slight limp. So much so that he had to lean on the meter.

Watching him from my mirror I couldn’t help but think of something. When we are babies, we are taught how to crawl and walk. And yes, we limp and wobble but eventually, we get to our destination.

Many times, we fall and cry because we just can’t seem to walk quite right. Yet still, we have determination in our hearts and minds, and cheerleaders pushing us forward. We finally get up and walk.

After tear-stained faces and body aches from the many falls, we finally walk. This is life in many different stages. Life of learning to put one foot in front of the other and move forward.

Getting over Jericho’s walls is almost and sometimes like fighting Goliath. It seems like it’s the battle of your life with no end in sight. Agonizing, troublesome, and just painstaking.

As a cancer survivor, whose gone through body-wrenching treatments, I can attest to this. I had days where my entire body hurt. Then there were the days when I had to struggle just to get to the bathroom.

Getting over my wall meant fighting to stand up. It means fighting to stay standing. Yes, I may lean and limp a bit here and there. However, just like the elderly man, I’m going to get to where I’m going leaning and limping all the way. How are you getting around your Jericho wall?

  1. Very encouraging Desiree, thank you! I know God is stretching me in different ways and through the process I am learning a lot. It helps to be reminded, that even though I am just learning to crawl in some ways, I will eventually walk. If I stumble God will pick me up and I can keep going. Have a nice day 🌼
