True Love Lives Forever
By
Desiree Future
There was a couple who met in a small town. They dated for a few years, and then they got married.
For years, they tried to have children, but nothing happened. They opted to move miles away for a better future instead. Not long after, they bore three beautiful children.
Ten years and three girls later, they decided to separate. The mom kept the kids with her, and the dad moved away.
The single mom raised the kids as best she could, while it seemed that the dad simply faded away from the entire picture. However, one of their now adult daughters made it her business to find him to bring him back into the photo. Unsure of what she would find in her search for her father, she searched nonetheless.
The daughter found him again, and as it turned out, he had been looking for her, her mother, and her sisters as well. She accomplished her mission.
At this stage, the still-separated couple were now proud grandparents of six. They began talking on the phone to catch up on their lives. After all, when they split, they had only three little girls. However, now the girls had families of their own.
Though they never visited each other, they talked on the phone almost every day like a newly love-struck couple. The daughter who found him went and introduced him to his grandson. He cried at the sight of them at the airport. His daughter was his twin because she looked exactly like him.
Sadly, less than six years later, he passed away in his sleep. The elderly mom couldn’t arrange or attend the funeral, so one daughter handled it instead.
The daughter went to her out-of-state father’s home to begin the heart-wrenching tasks. Upon packing away his things, she stumbled upon something interesting. A birthday card was sitting on the kitchen table. It read “To My Wife on Her Birthday”.
She burst into tears, realizing her father had gotten the card for her mother’s birthday, which was several days away. She tucked the card neatly into her suitcase to bring it back home to her mom.
After laying her father to rest, she went back home to give her mom the card. Handing it to her mother, she could see her mom’s eyes well with tears. After decades apart, she still remembered his handwriting, so she knew it was from her husband.
Decades of the two being separated, but they never divorced. Forty years of love never left the two.
Nine years after his passing, the mother passed away. The same daughter found the card again. This time it was at her mother’s house. True love lives forever.
As a single woman, I find strength and hope in this story. If my parents could survive this storm in their lives and still keep love in their hearts, then I can too. I still have that card as a remembrance.
In life, we have to learn to heal from the pain. Healing is a part of growing. Growing is a part of moving to a place where you smile for no other reason than being happy.
Let’s love one another as we grow together. My parents’ story taught me about love and its ups and downs. What lesson have you learned to be better?
1 Peter 4:8 NIV Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
