I want to apologize for not posting on November 1. I decided to replace my original post with something that just happened yesterday. Sometimes God will allow things to happen so you can see the bigger picture. He’s my bigger picture.

Misery Loves Company, Don’t Accept the Invitation

Some time ago, I opened an account to make purchases at a buy-and-sell company. I made a return and received a refund, but I let the money sit there. As I knew I would eventually make another purchase, so I thought.

Months later, I still hadn’t purchased anything, although my refund money was still there. I deleted the app from my phone. Eventually, I would find something to buy was my thought at the time

Several months after that, my bank, which I used for the site, sent me a new debit card. Considering I rarely used the site, I didn’t load my new card. Around the same time, the website I used started emailing me to update my card as the old one had expired.

I figured I’d update it when I was ready to purchase because I didn’t want my banking information on a site I didn’t use.  Besides, I didn’t owe them money.

After many emails threatening to restrict my account, I decided to update my bank card.

Yesterday, when I went onto the site to add my new debit card, it gave me an error message. Four attempts later, and the same thing happened each time. However, when I clicked on the link to add my bank, it didn’t give me an error. I found that odd, but I wanted to see what would happen if I clicked on the link.

What happened next caused me great alarm. The system wanted me to link my bank account to their website. What I mean by that is it asked me to click on my bank from a selection. Then my banking screen came up asking for my username and password. Absolutely not. No ma’am. No sir. No way.

I found it very funny that it would not accept my new debit card to update it. Yet it was willing to accept my complete banking information. This is totally unacceptable.

Scouring the internet, I managed to find a working customer service number. The first representative was so nice, but he told me he tried to get the system to accept my card, but it didn’t work. I would just have to enter my banking information.

Asking for a supervisor, she explained that there was nothing she could do for me. Either I link my bank account or close my account. Ok, that was fine with me. Kindly send me a check for my $8.00 refund, I told her. Unfortunately, that was not an option it had to be an electronic payment.

At that point, I was done with this whole mess, but I was still not giving my banking information to them. I informed the woman that the company could keep the eight dollars, as long as they closed my account. After giving me the instructions on how to close my account, I was free of them.

An hour later, I checked my email only to discover that my account could not be closed because of my available funds. I had to add my banking information to withdraw my funds so my account could be closed.

Clicking on the link they supplied to contact them. I explained my situation via chat for the third time in less than two hours. This time was no different from speaking to the previous two people.

In my opinion, it’s like they are forcing me to do something that I don’t want to. I’ve expressed several times that I’m not comfortable with giving out my banking information. Yet it seems everything I said went in one ear and out the other.

This is not over by a long shot because I refuse to let it hurt me in any way.  Whether it be my credit rating or financially, I will not let this harm me.

I say all of this to say, don’t let anyone bully you into anything you are not comfortable with. Do not let people put fear in you because you refuse to do what they want. Do not allow anyone to make you feel less of a person because you don’t agree with them.

Those bullies are people who have been hurt in their lives and now want to hurt others. Misery loves company, but don’t accept their invitation. Keep your head high and remember God has your back.
