Grateful For the Little Things

One day, I was getting ready to go to work. I had already laid my clothes out the night before, as I always do. They were even ironed too.

With everything prepared, it would be smooth sailing as I got dressed. Normally, it is, but not this particular morning. It seemed that the universe had other plans.

My new blue slacks needed the button moved over to make them slightly smaller in the waist. Don’t get me wrong, I am a crafty person, but I can’t sew. I scoured my room for a safety pin in a pinch.

Coordinating with my pants, I paired them with my beautiful mustard blouse I hadn’t worn in a while. Well, since I lost weight, it no longer fits. With the clock ticking away, I grabbed any blouse that didn’t need ironing.

Twenty minutes after I was originally supposed to leave, I was pulling out of my parking space. To say it was very frustrating would be an understatement. However, it was not the end of the world.

I realized that God has blessed me with something some people don’t get. That is having choices to pick other clothes. Choosing another blouse and having a pin to fix my pants. Some people only get to wear what’s on their backs.

Having the ability to run late for my job. I’ve been blessed to be at the same job for the past eighteen years. Some people are unemployed and don’t have money to get to job interviews.  Others can’t work because of their health.

It’s times like these when God allows me to see the real picture. It’s not about the clothes that don’t fit. Nor is it about being late.

What it is about is being grateful for everything that you have. Whether it’s big or small, just being grateful.

As I sit here and write this blog, I’m truly grateful that God gave me the talent of being a writer. I may not be a best-selling author yet. Or live in a house with a backyard to sit and write my latest story. But being gifted with this amazing talent is enough for me. What are you grateful for?
