Don’t Panic Because God Has It Under Control

While walking home from the store, my tired legs needed a break. Leaning on the park gate, I rested. The sprinklers were on, waiting for the children to enjoy the afternoon summer weather. The long pathway to home had a beautiful landscape with a park on one side and a daycare center on the other.
Resuming my walk, I moved closer to the opposite side of the gate. As I’m walking, I’m being aware of my surroundings as I always do, even though it was noon on a Saturday.
Something gray on the ground caught my attention. Unaware of what it was, this woman proceeded with caution. Even though I was on the other side of the gate from where it was, I was still a little leery.
An eerie fear crept into my body while inching closer to home past the unknown object.
Then it moved and slightly raised its head. The gray was replaced with black in an instant.
Sheer terror came over me like a sudden rainstorm. I was looking down at a large raccoon. Looking to my left, there was nowhere to escape. All that was there was the backyard of the daycare center.
Needing to make a split decision, I told myself not to panic. I quickened my steps and moved with such speed because my life was in danger. And believe me, this young lady was not letting that huge animal attack me.
Not being able to run did not deter me from making my escape. What it did was allow me to find another way to get away.
Power walking to my apartment so fast, I didn’t even know my legs could move like that. Never once looking over my shoulder to see where the large thing was. My mission was to get home safely. Nothing more and nothing less. By the grace of God I was able to do just that.
Looking back at the whole situation, a few things came to mind. Not being able to sprint as someone else did not matter to me. What really matters is the fact that I’ve found other ways to move with speed. Just at a slightly slower pace.
Then, there’s this thing called life. We may find ourselves in similar situations where there’s no outlet. We can’t go back or even run and hide. Our only option is to move forward.
Carrying burdens like heavy grocery bags leads us to be weighed down a lot. So much so that we don’t even know our own strength. That is, until we are forced to find that one morsel of power to take that step ahead.
This is God giving you the energy to make it through. He whispers in your ear, telling you not to panic because He has it all under control.
God has your back; you just have to trust Him.
Deuteronomy 31:16 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
