How My Faith Got Me Through

A few months ago, I had to send my 2004 Camry to the junkyard. The older used car had given me six good years. Though some of the years I had to spend more money on repairs than I wanted to or should have.

Well, as it is said, every good thing comes to an end. And an end it did, leaving me without any transportation.

Months prior, I had already begun saving money for another vehicle. In January, I had made a conscious decision that I would not spend any more money on repairs. Only money for gas and oil changes.

That was my plan while saving up for another vehicle. What I didn’t plan on was not being able to trade in my car because it wouldn’t start. So I sold it to the junkyard. Any money I could get would be better than nothing.

After eleven plus years of having a car, I found myself having to navigate public transportation. Don’t get me wrong, I have taken it many times before. It wasn’t entirely new to me. What was new was having to walk ten minutes just to get to the bus stop daily for work.

Having problems walking long distances made that difficult for me. My cane I once kept in my trunk now became an essential item I carried every day. Well at least most days.

It was indeed a struggle for me. A few times, I missed the bus. I didn’t calculate the extra time it would take in case my legs really hurt. Other times, my legs refused to move as fast as I willed them to.

Once, I was caught in the pouring rain, even with my raincoat and umbrella, I was still soaked. Another time, I came face-to-face with a large raccoon, which I wrote a post about. It was very hard for me to say the least.

Just going to the grocery store was a task in itself. If I went during the week when buses ran often, it was easier. On my remote work day I would easily be able to catch the bus because they ran frequently.

Going on the weekends meant I had to time the bus to the exact moment of arrival. I couldn’t miss it because the next one came forty minutes to an hour later. Then I had to rush through my shopping so I could catch the bus back.

It didn’t help that the store had previously decided to reorganize the entire place. I could only find dairy and produce. Everything else was moved. Sure I could have taken an Uber or Lyft but those prices are scary.

Sometimes I broke down and cried because it was too much mentally and physically. Other times I just stayed home because going out was too troublesome. But I held onto my faith.

Throughout my ordeal, I kept praying and saving my money. I knew God would make a way. If I had nothing else, I had my faith.

My plan was to purchase another used car after Labor Day, but God had other plans.

On July 22, for the first time ever, I walked into a dealership alone. I was the only customer unaccompanied there. The empty seat next to me wasn’t empty. God sat right next to me as He negotiated for me. I drove away with a brand new 2025 Nissan Sentra SV. This is how my faith got me through.

    1. I’m so sorry for the late reply. I thought I hit the reply button weeks ago. Thanks for nice comment. If I have nothing else, if I’m penniless I still have my faith.
