The Intersection of Life

One day, I was in a parking lot of a strip mall on my way out. At the particular point, there’s one stop sign. However, there are four different ways to move forward. Oddly, I had just been at the same spot a few days earlier in the same situation.
One is headed north. One is headed south. One is going west. And the final is going east.
There is only one stop sign, which is for eastbound traffic. No other signs are posted at this specific spot. Though all four cars stopped at this odd intersection, each waited for another to pass by.
I was headed northbound to exit the large lot. The eastbound car was headed to the other stores on the east side. The southbound car had just entered the massive shopping area. The westbound vehicle was headed to the underground garage on the west side.
To say a lot was going on at the spot would be an understatement. As everyone was going in a different direction. Yet we all ended up at the very same spot at the same time.
Growing up with family and friends, we sometimes start at the same point. However, along the way, we all go in separate directions like this intersection.
Your middle school best friend might end up as a nurse even though they never liked the sight of blood. You chose not to go to college but ended up as a successful blogger. The judge ordered you to perform community service when you were a juvenile for doing graffiti on the school building. Now you volunteer at the local community center, teaching kids how to draw.
This is life as we know it. There may be obstacles in our paths. These are distractions to stop you in your tracks. However, you must continue to move ahead.
Life is just like this crazy point; we move forward to get to our destination. At times, we may need to go backwards to correct what went wrong. That is entirely okay. I mean, how would you know what you did wrong if you didn’t go back to see?
Then we have the times when God tells us to be still. It doesn’t necessarily mean stop growing. It means stay put while God works things out.
Don’t apply for that new job across the country. Don’t put money down on that house in Georgia. Be still and wait for God’s answer.
These crossings that we come across are merely a time to reflect on our lives. The next time you come across one, take a minute and think about where you came from.
When I thought of where I was after I passed the intersection, it brought back memories. The fact that I’m driving a new car instead of taking the bus put a smile on my face. What brings back a fond memory for you?
Proverbs 2:20 NIV Thus you will walk in the ways of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous.
